The purpose of this section is to explain our customers what is body piercing, how to wear/take care and buy it. Spend a few minutes reading this page and you will find ordering body jewelry much easier than you thought.

All of our Body Piercing Jewelry items are made from high grade 316L Surgical Steel, Titanium, Silver (some attachments or earings), Acryl and other quality approved materials. We carefully select the best designs and our body jewelry in our online catalog is guaranteed to be high in quality.

MEASUREMENT

We use metric system (millimeters) to measure body jewelry.
For those of you who are
more familiar with the Imperial system, please refer to the conversion chart on the right
Gauge.
Gauge
is the size of the stem on most pieces of jewelry.Literally, it's the size (diameter) of the hole where people need to insert a piece of jewelry.
Tips:
Gauge sizes:
1.2 mm jewelry is mostly used for eyebrow piercing. 1.6mm is the starting point for most piercing like the tongue or the navel. Larger sizes are used to enlarge holes. This is a gradual process.
Ball sizes is really a matter of taste but as a general guide, 3 and 4 mm balls are used for eyebrow piercing and 5 and 6 mm balls for tongue piercings.

BODY JEWELRY STYLES
Ball Closure Rings
can be used with most piercings. They are the most common item of jewelry. Ball closure rings are used for initial piercing as they are easy to rotate in a fresh piercing, thus making them easy to clean.
Barbells are mostly used for tongue and nipple piercings. Micro barbells (1.2 Gauge) are used for eyebrows.
Bananas are used mostly for navel piercings even though they look nice when worn as earrings. Micro bananas (1.2 mm Gauge) are used for eyebrows.
Circular Barbells are to be used on nipple, lip, nose piercings, and as with most piercings jewelry. they look fine in the ears.
Spirals are to be used on navel (belly button), lip, nose piercings, and as with most piercings jewelry. they look fine in the ears.
Labrets are used for both lower and upper lip, cheek piercings as well as for the ears.
Hardware. Not exactly mainstream jewelry but increasingly popular, we classify as hardware all
jewelry that has a larger (than 1,6 mm) gauge. Most of that jewelry is used to enlarge ear holes.
Please note- these are only basic explanations of styles and ways of 'where/how to wear piercings'. We are going to expand our Body Piercing FAQ section in the future.

MATERIALS

Most of our piercings are made of Stainless Surgical Steel (316L).
The low nickel content causes less allergic reaction than many other types of metal jewelry. It is non-porous, does not stain, which means that bacteria cannot infect the metal and be spread as long as it is kept clean.

Anodised Surgical Steel 316 L are plated with titanium (anodised surgical steel is not suitable for tongue piercings).

Nickel Free Stainless Steel is very good for initial piercings. It’s nickel content is less than 0.03 % which is well below the 0.05 % specified in the European Nickel Directive.

Titanium is the hardest and highest grade of metal with virtually no presence of nickel (less than .05%). The strength of the metal makes it practically impervious to scratches and imperfections. Titanium is Biocompatible, light, strong metal. It is the most expensive metal used for body jewelry, but is certainly worth the price for someone who is hyper-sensitive to nickel-containing metals and can’t wear anything else. Titanium can also be anodized and comes in a wide variety of colors. Our piercing jewelry grade 23 titanium (6AL-4V-ELI) is complied with the European Nickel directive for initial piercings.

Black Steel is Surgical Steel 316 L coated with Titanium using a PVD process (Phisical vapor deposition). The coating is extremely resistant to scratches.

Bioplast is a Biocompatible material that is autoclavable. It can be cut to any length, is self threading (with any steel or titanium ball) and is totally flexible. It has been shown to reduce swelling and accelerate the healing process in new piercings. It does not cause any allergic reactions. Combined with High polish Titanium or with Nickel free Surgical Steel balls, it is probably the best material to use for initial piercings.

Organic jewelry is made from coconut or water buffalo bone and horn.
Body jewelry made of wood has great versatility. It is lightweight, so even a largely stretched piercing can be accommodated without discomfort. Wood is not recommended for long-term wear, cannot be autoclave sterilized, and is not recommended for new or unhealed piercing. Don’t allow wood jewelry to get saturated or over-heated (remove jewelry before swimming, bathing, or entering a sauna), but it can be safely cleaned with mild liquid anti-bacterial soap and a small amount of water, providing that it is dried immediately. Then it can be lightly treated once a week with jojoba or olive oil to prevent cracking. Tea tree oil can also be used for cleaning and to add sheen. Wooden pieces tend to keep warm in cold conditions, they are lightweight, they often stay in place better than other plugs and also they allow the body to "breathe" so the piercing is less likely to smell as it might with other materials.
Although they consist of different substances, bone and horn body jewelry can be treated essentially the same. They are semi-hard and porous, and are lightweight. Bone and horn are fragile and can shard when broken, so care should be taken not to allow them to be exposed to extreme pressure. They are not autoclavable, but can be carefully washed with mild antibacterial soap and a small amount of water and then treated once a month with jojoba, coconut or olive oil. They are not recommended for new or unhealed piercings, should not be worn long-term or during swimming, bathing or sleeping.

Pyrex. Medical grade Pyrex (borosicilate) is completely non-porous. It is completely hypoallergenic and Lead/Barium free. It is an extremely strong glass. It maintains a comfortable temperature in extreme weather conditions and will not freeze to the ear or crack.
Glass jewelry, although non-toxic and basically bio-compatible, should not be used for a fresh piercing or during stretching, but only on well-healed piercing.

Acryl body jewelry glows in the black (UV) light. Acryl is not autoclavable. If soaked in alcohol, it could crack or become mat. UV acrylic jewelry should only be used in healed piercings.

Teflon (PTFE) are favored over acrylic because they are autoclavable and flexible. These plastics are sometimes an option for someone with a severe sensitivity to all metal jewelry, and have also been successful for surface piercings and implants with lower rejection rates. However, not all piercers are experienced in using these materials since they are more challenging when it comes to inserting and threading. You would need to discuss the availability and options of using Nylon or PTFE for a new piercing with your piercer, but replacement jewelry and accessories are widely available. It's also a good material to use as retainers, when you need to take out any metal jewelry, like when in surgery or when X-rayed, so that the hole won't shrink.
